Volunteer Opportunities

The following are brief descriptions of the volunteer opportunities at Batshaw Centres.

Tutor

Volunteer assists with school subjects, French and mathematics in particular at all grade levels, usually a minimum of one time / week, 2-3 hours.

Older Sister / Older Brother

Volunteer acts as a positive role model, visiting a young person on a weekly basis, developing a friendly and supportive relationship. Eventually the volunteer and youth may go on short outings for a few hours, as approved by caregivers.

Program Animation

Volunteer animates a group activity in a residential care program, supplementing existing programs and activities. Some examples:

  • aerobics
  • artistic expression
  • music
  • dance fitness
  • theatre
  • yoga
  • sports activities
  • therapeutic recreation

Family Support

Volunteer provides support in unique situations where a family may benefit from special assistance. Example: Volunteer babysits children to enable mother and father to attend counselling sessions.

Driver

Volunteer drives youth to medical, family meetings, special activities or appointments. You need to have a current driver?s license, be in good health and have a vehicle in very good condition. Mileage is reimbursed. These are assignments that are not covered by the Batshaw Centres transportation department.

Communications

Volunteers assist Volunteer Services with secretarial, clerical, graphic design projects.
